I am not a fan of setting New Year’s Resolutions in the traditional sense. We always start the year with these grandiose ideas of how we want to better ourselves. And somehow, we end up falling flat on our backsides.

Even though this has happened to me more than I’d care to think about, I still think that there is something to be said for having goals for the year ahead. It gives you something to chip away at throughout the year. When you get to the next NYE, you can look back and say: “at least I got something done this year”.

The goals I want to achieve by the time NYE 2021 rolls around are:

Move out into my own place

Moving out has been on the todo list for a while. The primary reason is that I need some proper personal space. I.e. more than my bedroom. I’ve almost hit my target deposit, so the next step is to look into getting a mortgage pre-approval so I can start house-hunting in the earnest. I’m opting to buy rather than rent, because I don’t want to be beholden to any landlord.

Start dating again

I would love to find someone special to spend the rest of my life with. Having kids is a fringe benefit.

The first step is to get back into dating. Scratch that. The first step is to get myself back out there. Ease myself back into striking up a conversation with folks.

And revamp my wardrobe while I’m at it. Enlisting the help of a wardrobe consultant is in order. Or my more fashion-forward friends.

Expand my palette

I love eating out. What I don’t 100% love is my propensity for revisiting the same handful of restaurants over and over again.

What I need to do in 2021 is move away from my comfort zone and try cafes and restaurants that I’ve never been to before.

I’m setting myself the target of 5 completely new places before NYE22.

Try a completely new crochet pattern

Related to that is the subject of crochet patterns. In the however-many-years that I’ve owned my copy of Crochet Lace, I’ve only ever reached for the same handful of patterns time and time again.

In 2021, the goal is to finish a pattern that I’ve never attempted before.
